Itzhak Shum was born September 1, 1948 and is married with three children (one son and two daughters).
As a player, Shum started his career with Hapoel Kfar-Saba in 1965 up until 1983. He has 78 caps with the Israeli National Team and was captain numerous times. He played in the Olympic games in Mexico in 1968, the 1970 World Cup and the 1976 Olympic games in Montreal. Itzhak Shum started his coaching career in 1983 through 1985 with Hapoel Kfar-Saba. He later moved on to Hapoel Haifa in 1985-1986. Shum had a six year spell from 1986-1992 when he took over Beitar Tel-Aviv. In 1992-2000, he took over as coach for the Israeli Olympic team and also was an assistant for the National Team. In 2002, he coached Maccabi Haifa and lead them for the first time in Israeli history to the Champions League. This year (2002-2003) he lost the Israeli title to rival, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, as both teams finished level on points. |
