First half enough for the win

Panathinaikos only needed the first half to surpass Proodeftiki in matchday 14 at Leoforos. Goran Vlaovic gave the Greens the lead, only to see Poulopoulos pull one back for Proodeftiki after the half hour mark, reminding everyone of what happened last year when the same player scored the only goal, stunning PAO. The Greens added another two goals and got their 21st consecutive win at home. For another match there was bad news for Itzhak Shum, who saw Giorkas Seitaridis leave the game in the 10' due to a toe injury. The talented defender is likely to miss up to three weeks, meaning he will miss the mid week Greek Cup match with OFI and the next league match against Panileakos.

The Greens started the match looking for the quick goal and had two chances with Yiannis Goumas and Miltos Sapanis who could not find the target. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until the dreaded 10'. Poulopoulos, with an unprofessional tackle, clipped Seitaridis ripping his cleat open and injuring his toe. First reports are that the 22 year old defender will be out three weeks. Jian Michaelsen without much warm up was substituted in to replace the injured Seitaridis. With that tackle, the Greens woke up and in the 15', Raimondas Zutautas swung the ball into the box and Vlaovic all alone headed it past Kalamakis to open up the score.

Despite holding Proodeftiki in their own end, the "maroons" answered back on the half hour mark. Vilanakis took a free kick, the ball deflected off of Aggelos Basinas to Poulopoulos, who with a header leveled for Proodeftiki. The Greens quickly responded three minutes later to take the lead and never look back. Basinas took the corner kick from the left and Sapanis headed the go-ahead goal to make it 2-1. Two minutes later, Michalis Konstantinou missed an opportunity to add to the total. In the 42', Basinas swung in a pin point cross to Konstantinou, who one timed the shot past Kalamakis to make it 3-1 and to give Panathinaikos a comfortable lead going into the half.

The second half started with Proodeftiki attacking, but it was Panathinaikos who had a good chance with Vlaovic in the 49'. He found himself one on one with Kalamakis but could not beat the keeper. From that point on the rhythm of the match dropped and had few chances for both teams. Shum gave some playing time to Silvio Maric who was injured the past few weeks and also to Xenophone Gittas who saw his first action this season.

After the game, Shum said, "I am satisfied with the way we played and that we scored three times today. Our performance in the first half was a continuation from the match against Rangers. In the second half we just tried to hold the score as we have two games in one week."

Yellow cards: Goumas.

Panathinaikos: Nikopolidis, Henriksen, Morris, Goumas, Seitaridis (11' Michaelsen), Munch (82' Gittas), Basinas, Zutautas, Sapanis, Konstantinou, Vlaovic (70' Maric).
